Owharoa about 1895. Top left - School with teacher's residence which was first small school in 1882. On road - Reed's Hotel and Store, Rising Sun Battery, Poppet Head and Pump House.

Owharoa about 1909. School and Hotel had been moved to Waikino. Note Railway (opened 1905), and on Hotel site, Rowlands Boarding House — now home of Mrs Walder (sen.).
