First Gorge Road, opened November 1890

Road Works.—The new road to Owharoa from Karangahake is now fit for horse traffic, and is an excellent job. It is on the river level, and has cost about £1200. Messrs Kelly and Co. have just taken a contract for £83 to cut off certain sharp corners. When this is done and the culverts have been perfected, this road will be fit for any sort of wheeled or other traffic. [1]
